Book InformationFull book blurb:
Karma was his callsign. He never believed in its meaning.
Bryce Rath believed in his team. In the mission. In getting everyone home.
Deep in Afghan territory, a compromised op left him with one option: call in a drone strike.
It misfired.
It didn’t just eliminate the enemy. It erased his entire team.Once a MARSOC Raider, Bryce now drifts off the grid, guiding fishing tours and avoiding the past he refuses to face. His training never taught him to ask why. Only how to survive. But when he crosses paths with a family trapped in a town rotting from the inside, circumstances force Bryce to act. The system has failed them. After exhausting every peaceful option, he’s left with one choice:
Walk away, or burn it all down doing the right thing.
Finally, a mission that makes sense.
Karma is coming. And when he does, you get what you deserve.

I’ve spent years behind the scenes as a ghostwriter, helping others bring their ideas to life. Now I’m telling the stories I’ve always wanted to write.
The Karma Files™ is my debut thriller series. It's a raw, cinematic look at what it means to do the right thing in a world that rarely rewards it. These stories are for readers who still believe justice matters, even when the system breaks.
My background is in filmmaking and fight choreography. I’ve worked alongside special operations veterans and storytellers who’ve lived the kind of truth most people never get close to. The Karma Files began in those quiet, unfiltered conversations that happen after the cameras stop rolling.
I write under a pen name because this story isn’t about me. It’s about what it stands for.
And if you're reading this, you're already part of it.

1. Give us a brief description of your latest thriller:
Karma: Peace Was Never an Option is a gritty, high-stakes action thriller about Bryce Rath, a former MARSOC Raider drifting the waterways of Northern California. Karma was his callsign. He never believed in its meaning until now.
When he finds a family in danger and becomes the only one who can help, he’s forced to risk everything to do the right thing. This isn’t about returning to duty. It’s about restoring balance in a world that no longer plays fair.
When Karma shows up... you get what you deserve.
This is the first book in The Karma Files™ series.
2. Describe your writing process (research, outline…):
My process begins with real-world research and honest conversations. I keep a running list of ideas on my phone, sparked by news reports, books, passing thoughts, or stories I’ve heard along the way. If something lingers, I let it grow, following the thread until a clearer picture forms.
As the idea takes shape, I explore it from every angle. Once the story starts living in my head, I write it all out in one pass. It’s messy, but raw. Then I go back, break it apart, and see what holds. Some parts stay. Others evolve. New characters emerge. Subplots surface. That’s when the real shaping begins.
I map out the major beats, but always leave room for the story to surprise me. Every element must serve a purpose, raise tension, reveal character, or expose an uncomfortable truth.
I’m fortunate to have people in my life I can call to gut-check the reality behind the fiction. For this series, I've had the honor of working with an incredible group of veterans, both in special forces and other sectors, who help ground the story in truth. Their insight shapes the consequences of every decision and the weight behind each action. What matters most to me is that they connect with it. If they believe in it, then I’ve done my job.
3. Describe yourself in 5 words:
Grit. Focus. Loyalty. Resilient. Passion.
4. What thriller got you hooked on the genre (as a reader)?
The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum. It showed me that action can be intelligent, emotional, and unrelenting. That book lit the fuse. Since then, I’ve found freedom in reading stories that pull you in and conversations that bring those stories to life with the people I care about most.
5. When not writing, you are?
Surfing, golfing, training, barbecuing, or plotting my next escape route; mentally and physically.
6. If you couldn’t write thrillers anymore, what genre would you write in?
Comedy. We need to laugh more together, not at people, but with each other. I also enjoy science fiction for the way it builds a hypothesis around what could happen and stretches it into the possibilities our minds can imagine. And I love a good mystery, especially the kind that keeps you thinking long after the last page.
7. A reader asks for a recommendation for their first thriller read, which author (other than yourself) do you recommend?
There have been so many incredible stories told in this genre. I was shocked to discover that Rambo was originally a novel. But of course it was! It’s raw, character-driven stories like that usually start on the page.
If someone’s just getting into thrillers, I’d start with Robert Ludlum or Lee Child. Ludlum pulls you deep into global conspiracies with high stakes and layered characters. Child, on the other hand, keeps things lean, sharp, and fast-paced. James Rollins is great if you like action grounded in science and history, and early Tom Clancy still holds up for big geopolitical stories that never lose their human core.
Two standout reads for me have been The Afghan by Frederick Forsyth and I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes. Both dive into espionage and global threats in ways that feel personal, methodical, and real.
8. How has your life / job experience helped you as a thriller author?
My journey in life has taken me down a wide range of paths. I’ve been fortunate to live many different lives and lifestyles. I’ve worked across more industries and professions than I can count. But what I’ve never forgotten are the powerful stories shared by the people I’ve met along the way. It has always struck me how the janitor often lives a richer life than the owner or CEO in most fields. Few people take the time to listen. I’ve tried to listen more than I speak.
My wife might disagree, but I usually get there, eventually. Most of the time, I break the ice with humor. Not jokes for attention, but the kind that make people feel comfortable, seen, and understood.
Laughter lowers walls. It opens the door to something deeper. What I’ve learned is that the best stories aren’t always loud. They are earned, personal, and precise. The people who carry them often don’t feel the need to tell them until they are invited. When they do, this world never stops amazing me.
9. Writing goals for 2025/2026?
Release Book Two of The Karma Files™ and dive into the third. The first book taught me a lot, especially what not to do. I definitely made it harder on myself than it needed to be. I also had to rewire my brain after years of screenwriting, where everything lives in the present tense. Writing novels is the opposite, but I’ve come to prefer it. You get to tell the full story without relying on a hundred other people to bring it to life. You don’t have to get in late and out early with every scene. You get to say what the character is thinking or feeling.
Most actors hate it when writers tell them how to feel. Which is funny, because they spend a lot of time on set asking, "What’s my motivation for this scene?"
I’ve learned that no matter how hard you work, art is always subjective. Some readers will love it. Some won’t. And that’s okay. Worst case? Maybe the movie version will finally be the one that’s better than the book.
10. What did I forget to ask?
Maybe: Why should readers trust me with their time?
Because I treat every chapter like a scene that needs to earn its place. I’ve spent years helping others shape their stories, and now I’m sharing one that refused to let go. My goal is simple. Pull you in, keep you there, and make sure every page is worth the time you gave it.
Thank you, Steve, for taking the time to ask great questions and for making me feel like part of the group.
And thank you to everyone reading this. I wish you all success with your stories, wherever they lead.
